1998 Acura NSX -- Power and Performance Wrapped in an Exotic, Yet Reliable Package

The 1998 Acura NSX is once again thrilling sports car drivers with its sleek style and powerful engine. Never before has an exotic sports car maintained such a high level of performance and sophistication while continuing to impress drivers with its reliability and driveability.

The high performance Acura NSX electrifies drivers with its sporty design and 290 horsepower, 3.2-liter, V-6 engine with 6-speed manual transmission. With 224 lbs.-ft. of torque from its lightweight, all-aluminum powerplant, the 1998 NSX accelerates effortlessly.

"The NSX continues to set the standard as a leading, hand-crafted sports car, year after year," said Rich Thomas, Acura's executive vice president and general manager. "The NSX allows drivers to experience a combination of high-powered performance, uncompromising style, and reliability in a one-of-a-kind automobile."

For 1998, the mid-engine NSX continues to offer two distinct powertrains. The standard engine is the all-aluminum 3.2-liter, dual overhead-cam, 24 valve, 90-degree V-6 yielding 290 horsepower, while the optional automatic transmission features the Formula One racing inspired SportShift mode mated to the 3.0-liter V-6 engine that provides 252 horsepower and 210 lbs.-ft. of torque.

The Acura NSX boasts a number of technological "firsts," including:

  • The world's first mass-produced all aluminum unit-body construction;
  • The first application of the Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC) system in the United States;
  • The world's first use of titanium connecting rods in a production engine;
  • The first use of four-channel anti-lock braking system (ABS) in the United States;
  • Drive-by-wire throttle system that senses throttle pedal position and relays the information to a computer.

The 1998 NSX includes the VTEC system, a Variable Volume Induction System intake, Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI), and a direct ignition system.

In addition, the NSX's braking system includes ventilated 4-wheel discs and a 4-channel anti-lock braking system (ABS). The NSX also features an advanced Traction Control System (TCS), which is designed to help limit wheelspin and enhance control. The system works in conjunction with the ABS speed sensors and a G-sensor to detect rotational differences between front and rear wheels and vehicle conditions for maximum TCS effectiveness.

Every detail on the NSX has been engineered to produce the utmost in performance including the forged alloy wheels, which result in a very light wheel with the strength and impact resistance of a much heavier steel wheel. The NSX is equipped with wide, low-aspect-ratio tires, front and rear, for more responsive handling and increased cornering capability.

Electric Power Steering (EPS) system and an anti-theft vehicle immobilizer system are standard on the NSX. Inside this exotic sports car, the driver and passenger can enjoy creature comforts including an automatic climate control system, an Acura/Bose® Music System, power windows and door locks, cruise control and a tilt/telescopic steering column.

The NSX-T comes with a removable top, which is made of aluminum for light weight and durability and has its own storage compartment under the rear glass hatch. In addition, the vehicle's security system functions with the top removed as well as in place.

Like all Acura models, the NSX is covered by a comprehensive 4-year/50,000-mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty. Additional ownership benefits include Acura Total Luxury Care (TLC), which provides free 24-hour roadside assistance, concierge service and trip routing.
