The Centrifugal Clutch on the BF2 maintains a smooth idle for easy trolling, automatically engaging the propeller when the throttle is advanced. Honda BF15 and BF20: The Ideal Combination of Power and Portability
At 103 pounds, Honda Marine's BF15 and BF20 weigh less than some 9.9 horsepower motors on the market. The engines' long-stroke design and 350cc displacement provide optimum torque throughout the rpm range. Both also are available with Power Thrust design for enhanced performance and maneuverability. The BF115 is derived from the inline 4-cylinder 2.4 liter dual overhead camshaft (DOHC) engine platform used in Honda's award-winning and popular Accord automobile – the largest displacement engine in its class. As a result of the outstanding performance of this engine, coupled with the advanced technologies it incorporates, the BF115 is able to produce class-leading performance with outstanding fuel efficiency and reliability.
Holeshot and acceleration are dramatically improved via the use of Honda Marine's exclusive BLAST™ system, which advances ignition spark timing to within one degree of the knock limit during ‘hammer down' acceleration. At that point, the Engine Control Module (ECM) steps in to increase injector timing, creating a more potent air/fuel mixture. In fact, the ECM receives constant input from 18 different sensors to deliver instant starts, smooth operation, strong performance and excellent fuel efficiency. Specifically, the BF115 reduces fuel consumption by 19 percent over the previous model, per Honda R&D internal testing data.
The resulting boost in available torque at low rpm contributes to a strong holeshot to get the boat up on plane quickly. The ignition spark timing is appropriately adjusted under slower throttle advancement, resulting in a leaner air/fuel mix and class-leading fuel efficiency.

Honda BF250: New Flagship Engine, Advanced Technology
In 2011, Honda Marine introduces the all-new BF250 four-stroke engine, the most powerful outboard to join the Honda Marine lineup – and now the company's flagship model.
The Honda Marine BF250 incorporates a number of advanced technological innovations that contribute to the engine's high fuel economy and superior performance. The 3.6 liter VTEC® (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control®) engine is equipped with an all-new gear case, incorporates the world's first marine direct air dual circuit induction system of its type on a production outboard (providing for cooler, denser air for better combustion than conventional under-cowl induction systems), and has a full-throttle RPM range of 5300-6300.
The design of the variable air intake system on the Honda BF250 also includes a large air-intake silencer that reduces noise. The silencing effect results from a chamber being added to the intake passage – causing sound waves to interfere with one another – creating a side branch effect that quiets noise.
